Moonlit Black Cats was a mid-level guild with relatively few members, although all of them, except for Kirito, knew each other offline as the guild was formed from the members of a schoolhouse'due south calculator guild.[one]

On April 8, 2023, Kirito assisted the Moonlit Black Cats when they were being pushed back by monsters in a Labyrinth while their only forward, Tetsuo, had suffered heavy harm and could switch places with anyone. While holding back on fighting the monsters, Kirito led the guild out of the Labyrinth, thus the lodge invited him to an ale firm to thank him. At the ale house/inn in Taft, the social club toasted for Kirito's aid. During their chat, Keita, the leader of the order, asked Kirito near his level. Kirito lied most his truthful level, claiming it to be around the level of the gild members, when in fact his level was two times higher than the one claimed. Since Keita believed that Kirito was effectually their level and would be before long invited to join a social club, he invited him to join them. Kirito accustomed the invitation, but planned to but remain as a temporary member until the lodge became stiff enough to be independent.
During the next couple of months, Kirito assisted the order, especially Sachi, who was deeply agape of death. During the time lapse, the members of the order had hopes of being stiff enough to catch upwardly and join the Clearers on the front end lines, and, with Kirito joining them, they believed they stood a gamble of catching up.
On June 22, 2023, the guild finally acquired enough money to buy a home for the order, thus Keita left for the Boondocks of Beginnings to bargain out for one. The other members and then wanted to impress Keita by obtaining items from monsters stronger than them to earn money to celebrate their new dwelling.

While exploring the Labyrinth of the 27th Floor, the guild came across a hidden room with a treasure breast in the middle of information technology. Ducker, whose trap disabling skill was besides low, accidentally triggered a trap, causing the room to exist sealed in an Anti-Crystal Area. Simultaneously, Granite Elementals and Night Dwarf Miners, which were much higher in level than most of the guild members, speedily filled the room. The guild was apace overwhelmed, resulting in all of them except for Kirito, who survived due to his college level, to be killed. Afterward Kirito informed Keita of the deaths of their boyfriend order mates, the latter cursed Kirito'southward condition every bit a Beater, earlier committing suicide by jumping off the edge of an Aincrad floor.

- After the death of his club mates, Kirito treated a tree growing next to the inn that the guild in one case used as a headquarters as a replacement for a grave for the fallen guild. He continued visiting the site occasionally.[2]
